RPL SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

Regina Public Library #BookFaceFriday Instagram Post

OBJECTIVE: Help the library grow its social media following through creative posts that advertise its collection and programs

SOFTWARE: iPhone & Instagram

PROCESS: One summer, I got the privilege of creating social media content for Regina Public Library. At the time, I met with various departments to learn about their love for all the different programs and services they offered. Marketing talked to us about wanting to reach more people through social media with creative posts promoting books.

They already were participating in a trend called #BookFaceFriday, where you make an interesting background to match a book you’re trying to showcase. I had just read I Kissed Shara Wheeler and wanted to share my love of it, but how would I get an interesting background? I started brainstorming, making lists of events or references in the book I could display and locations nearby we could do it. Eventually, I landed on taking it near some photos downtown, near some flowers, as flowers were on the inside cover of the book. I wore bright green pants to capture everyone’s attention and match the book, and then we went and took the photo. We were determined to use no software or fancy equipment, just an iPhone. It took many takes to get myself, the book, and the picture perfect. I love how it turned out!

REFLECTION: For this project, I learned how much fun it can be when you’re able to bring your passions into your work. I also fell in love with adding little details or references to my work whenever possible.
